UnitedHealthcare doesn't have to change its lactation care reimbursement policy...

....but I wish it would!

Here's the main reason why UHC doesn't (legally) have to reverse course on its new lactation care reimbursement policy:

"All the same, there’s no legal requirement for UnitedHealthcare to reverse its lactation care coverage change. This is because they have been acting in good faith by covering both mother and infant care, even though the billing code (S9443, referenced above) actually only applies to women. This is because lactation care has been covered under the Affordable Care Act as a women’s preventive service. Women’s preventive services are covered at 100%, without a deductible or co-pay, but by definition they apply to women only."
