Ep 84: Stop Throwing Away All That Pumped Milk!

Lady, this episode wouldn't have come to be if it were up to me because I haven't pumped at all since my 9-month-old was born. But I recently was asked to write up ParentData founder Emily Oster's deep dive on safe breastmilk storage and why the CDC's guidelines about when to throw it away are likely far stricter than necessary.

In this episode, I shared the reason behind the CDC's (over)abundance of caution + practicals like what the research says on how long freshly pumped milk vs. previously frozen or refrigerated milk can be out on the counter, how long it can be in the fridge, whether you can mix cold and warm milk (hint: yes, not a big deal!), and how long you have after starting a bottle before you should probably toss (such good news here!).

If you enjoyed this episode, also check out this one on how many calories breastfeeding moms really need.

Hey Lady!

What if you could love who you become during postpartum? What if postpartum wasn't a default time, but a window of opportunity, an experience you could enter into on purpose? Here, you'll find articles I've written for various outlets, exploring the answers to these questions.

Let the posts come to you.
